Job Summary
Under the direction of the Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Athletics Director for External Relations is responsible for overseeing the entire execution of external operations of the Athletic Department. The position will oversee staff in Athletics Communications, Creative Services, Marketing, and External Engagement. They will manage a variety of strategic Athletic Department projects and initiatives; assist in coordination of Athletic Department functions and events including but not limited to: donor events, gameday marketing and promotions, university team functions, and ASUN Conference and NCAA activities and tournaments as required. They will assist, coordinate, and/or lead special projects including but not limited to, sport specific marketing and brand enhancement plans, targeted external events, and donor engagement and cultivation activities. They may also serve as a sports administrator for select programs upon experience. At the discretion of the Athletic Director, this position may also serve on the senior staff and be involved in high level decision making for the athletic department.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the entire external team of the athletic department
- Monitor and manage all budgetary allocation for external operations
- Facilitate partnership with Gemstone Media Productions through JU ESPN Broadcast Team
- Develop comprehensive marketing and promotion plans for all athletic teams
- Achieve relevant actionable tasks that help accomplish quantitative marketing metrics of success (i.e., game attendance, followership, impressions, unique views)
- Oversee game day materials: PA scripts, playlists, timing sheets, etc.
- Execute various marketing and gameday promotional activities on campus and throughout the Jacksonville community
- Manage assigned game day responsibilities: set-up/tear-down, music, videoboard, sponsorship fulfillment, etc
- Utilize written communication skills to help develop external promotions, invitations, and newsletters to Athletics supporters, alumni, and fans
- Assist with planning and execution of high-level Athletics events
- Donor dedications, nationally broadcasted games, major fundraising initiatives
- Assist with events and execution for sport-specific initiatives
- Tip-Off Club (Men’s Basketball), 88 Club (Men’s Lacrosse), Diamond Club
(Baseball)
- Tip-Off Club (Men’s Basketball), 88 Club (Men’s Lacrosse), Diamond Club
- Helps Athletic Director build camaraderie, cohesion and teamwork in the department
- May serve as sport administrator for select sports
- Represent Jacksonville University and the Athletic Department in a positive manner to other schools, and the greater Jacksonville.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence a variety of stakeholders.
- Develop effective working relationships with coaches and other members of the Athletic
- Department and throughout the University.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficient with personal computers, including the entire suite of Microsoft Office
- Applications, Adobe Creative Cloud, and others as required.
- Ability to lead, manage, coach, and mentor people assigned to administrative functions within the department.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be highly motivated, detail oriented, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience with computer software applications preferred.
- Highly passionate about their personal and professional growth
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration or Sports Management is highly desirable. Advanced Degree is preferred.
- An understanding of NCAA rules and regulations is required.
- Thorough knowledge of marketing and brand management.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Minimum Work Experience:
- 1-2 years of Administrative experience in athletic department or related area
- Demonstrated ability to work with others
- Ability to successfully balance and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral, written, and computer skills
